Attended the Emirates, Etihad or Qatar Final Interview - How long do I have to wait?

This is usually the most difficult period. After preparing well for the final interview and doing your best, what would you do now? The real answer is nothing aside from waiting.

With Etihad and Qatar, you can expect to hear from them in about two weeks. Sadly, it does take a lot longer for Emirates. It really has nothing to do with the batch you are in. Many seem to think that if most of the applicants in their batch had received either an acceptance (as in golden call) or an unsuccessful mail, then why are they kept waiting? Is this good or bad news? What about if the recruiters asked for additional photographs? is this good or bad news?

Let me enlighten you on the above. The batch you are in has nothing to do with the timing when you receive their reply. There are a number of variables at play here. Training space availability, good ratio of nationality mix, age diversification and vacancies form crew leaving and those finishing their contracts.

Requesting additional pictures, very often casual pictures requested at this late stage is to ensure your file is complete for the recruitment panel to review your case and your application. It does not mean good or bad news, it is good news in a way that your application has not been rejected but do not try to read too much into it.

What about status not changing? Again, this is a manual process and while it is a useful guide to indicate the stage you are at, it is by no means conclusive and should only be used as a guide.

Others have been asked to send in additional close up pictures of their scars on certain parts of their body? Does this mean they are likely to be rejected? No and no, it only means they need further clarification of the scar significance and the case will be decided by the recruitment panel.

We also often get asked if they should email the recruiter as they are getting nervous and would like to know where they are. The quick answer is “Don’t do it”. Your case is never forgotten so by chasing them only shows your impatience and gets recorded on your application file that you chased, I have mixed views on this. It is seen as good as you show to them that you are still interested in the role, and want to hear the outcome. However, it also shows your impatience and they are also very unlikely to give you any immediate answer. What’s more detrimental is your chase gets documented in your file. It may work for or against you so we advise not to do it but just wait.
