Your Qatar cabin crew assessment day and what to expect

When attending one of Qatar’s open days in your local city or elsewhere, please bring a copy of your CV, a photocopy of your passport and highest level of education certificate, and 2 photos. You will need one passport sized photo and one full-length photo. Please dress in full business attire (with jacket) and against a white backdrop. For those of you who think - no it should be a light blue background, well that is for the finalists who are told to dress differently for the picture. You should also be wearing formal business attire for the open day.

Please arrive to the open day smartly dressed and allow plenty of time so you will not be late.

Candidates will be asked to form a queue and recruiters sit behind a desk to meet each person individually. When your turn arrives, your documents and CV will be checked. You will be asked a few, short questions, nothing difficult, questions like ‘Why do you want to become Cabin Crew?’ or ‘Why do you want to work for Qatar?’ Whilst this is going on, you will also be asked to perform the reach test.

Following that, you may be handed a piece of paper containing details of the Assessment Day. If so, congratulations! This is your invitation.

Alternatively, you are advised to wait for an email or phone call by the evening telling you whether you have been shortlisted. Unfortunately, you will not hear back from them - it means you have been unsuccessful.

The assessment day takes place the day after the open day, so make sure you have taken time off for both days! The same dress standards apply for the following day. Between each round of the assessment day there are usually rounds of eliminations.

The day starts with a presentation of the company and life in Doha, and you will be given the opportunity to ask any questions. You will then be requested to complete a multiple choice English test which lasts 45 minutes. You will also need to complete 5 maths questions and write an essay on a given subject. This test is to check your understanding of the English language, and if you can express yourself clearly.

After the written test, there will be an oral test. You will be asked to pick a word from a bowl and then speak about this word for as long as possible. While this is taking place others will be asked to perform the reach test again and the recruiters will check for scars and tattoos.

Those who qualify will be asked to join the group activities. There you will be given a task, usually an overbooking situation and discuss the priorities. They check and take notes to evaluate your team collaboration and communication skills.

The final interview usually takes place on the same day as the assessment day and takes just 5 to 10 minutes questions are based on your CV and experience.

Remember the mean age of cabin crew as stated by the Qatar CEO in a press conference is 26 years of age. What this means is a normal distribution with a mean of 26 so expect a standard deviation of +/-4 years.
