Having Confidence at the Open Day, Assessment Day and Final Interview is your door to success!

Another short article - let us focus on the all important "CONFIDENCE".

Yes, most people say that they have it in their Skills section on their CV but the recruiter will find out through body langauge if you really do have what you say you do.

At the recruitment open day, the recruiters are looking for people who exude confidence.

STOP putting yourself down and having these very negative thoughts:

- I am not beautiful enough.
- I just don't have that "crew look".
- I don't have the figure.
- I don't look like a model.
- My teeth are not straight.
- I have a gap in my teeth.
- I am not smart enough.
- I may not answer the questions well.
- I am male and they only prefer good looking males.
- Harder for males to get hired unless you speak Arabic
- They don't hire my nationality.

Avoid negative thinking
And so we get caught up in negative thinking. It will not be long before our thoughts become reality in our mind and we then start thinking only good looking perfect girls and guys that can get this job.

So where did it all go wrong when you find out you aren't shortlisted.
So, how do you exude confidence?

To exude confidence, work on your body language, speaking style, and overall attitude. Make sure to stand tall, use an even voice, and make eye contact while talking. Work on feeling confident overall. Remember not to be afraid of other people's judgment, and embrace who you are as a person.

Practice good posture. Even slight slouching gives impression of nervousness and how others perceive you.

When you talk, try to move your hands a little to the rhythm of your words. But don't overdo this. Done in balance, your body language will show the recruiter you are confident and charismatic.

Never fidget, keep your body movements still while you talk, aside from your hands (above). Even the slightest fidgeting shows the recruiter you are anxious.

Adopt a open body posture helps exude confidence. Lean back and relax. Allow your arms to rest comfortably on the sides of your chair. Do not cross your legs. Crossing your legs will make you feel insecure.

Use a clear voice when speaking. Do not stutter and be aware of your tone and pitch. If you stutter, the recruiter will think you are not comfortable about the statement you are making and may be it is "made-up".

Listen - always give others a chance to speak. And, show you're listening well. And smile, to show to the recruiter your are listening.

Never apologise when sharing convictions. Having strong passions show confidence. E.g. "Actually I see the situation quite differently", and then proceed to explain.

Confidence isn't about winning. It is about finding a solution that works for everyone.Always let others talk.

Being aggressive and being confident are two different things. Don't get upset or angry when others challenge you, this makes you look insecure.

Maintain eye contact for about 5 seconds then glance away before making eye contact again. Avoid looking slightly down as it gives the impression you are slightly weak.
