Emirates Cabin Crew Final Interview - How long do I have to wait for the outcome?

Why do some candidates get their JFIP sooner than others after their cabin crew final interview? If you are trying to understand this, you need to put yourself in their shoes to understand how hiring works, and not just me, me, me.

Here is a logical process of how airlines hire cabin crew, and Emirates does appear to be doing the same.

If you think and approach your answer from the HR point of view, you will start to understand why the process works the way it does. Here is a point by point breakdown for you:

1. At the final interview, candidates are scored and are very likely to be categorised into 3 buckets (1) "Most suitable for hire" (2) May be(s)? and (3) Not suitable for hire.

2. Those that fall in (1) will be informed, often within say 1 to 3 weeks after their FI. Emirates cannot afford to lose them - they are strong team fit candidates and mean a lot to the success of Emirates and they do not want to lose them to fellow airlines.

3. Those in the “Not Suitable” bucket are rejected, they get informed just as quickly too!

4. Those in the "May be(s)" - this bucket can be viewed as a reserve list. Why? In case someone from Bucket (1) fails the background / security / medical clearance, they will dig into the highest score from Bucket (2), so those in this bucket are likely to hear from EK, say 4 to 10 weeks after the FI and they work this bucket one by one. After 10 weeks, this bucket may or may not be looked at any further, occasionally they may still look at it - and you may have the exceptional case of someone saying I received my JFIP -12 weeks after the FI. However, for most - this is where it is unlikely to be further progressed after 10 weeks from the FI. Anyone still left in the "May be" bucket will get a UM after 10 weeks.

5. So, there is no need to be sad. Think Emirates rather than me, me and me, and you will see this hiring process makes sense from the corporate point of view and it is efficient.

6. Emirates has to safeguard their own interests by hiring the right people for their teams and ensuring they also have reserves to call upon in case someone in their first choice fails the JFIP stages. Remember the JFIP stage to DOJ is not an automatic guarantee as we all like to think. Security / background and medicals can go wrong at this stage too! Or you could have the scenario where someone was given a JFIP and refuses the offer either because of other circumstances or wants to defer the date of joining.
