Emirates uses Hirevue Artifical Intelligence Digital Interview for the first round of cabin crew selection

Tips when using Hirevue

1. Maintain eye contact in front of the camera as if you’re speaking face-to-face with a person.

2. Make sure to pronounce your words and try not to stutter or have long pauses.

3. Don’t forget to keep it natural. Sounding too rehearsed can make you sound like a robot and boring. Showing your personality can go a long way, just like when you do live interviews or phone calls.

4. Make it a little informal within a formal context. Remain professional but also let them see that you are warm, kind, friendly and approachable.

5. Please dress appropriately. You want to dress like a cabin crew but of course you will be in the formal wear as stated in EK's Formal photo guidelines.

The Hirevue software (the Artificial Intelligence AI) allow EK's recruiters and the recruitement panel back in Dubai to see non-verbal cues – such as facial expressions, eye-movements, body movements, details of clothes, and nuances of voice. These non-verbal cues are collected as data points and processed by HireVue technology to perform meaningful assessments for Emirates recruiters, this is how video recording AI algorithms work.

Answer the questions about yourself in a sincere way and be genuine. Honesty is the best policy. The HireVue software can pick up if you are insincere and will score the content of your answers alongside your body language. The communication skills you need to show are confidence, empathy, friendliness (easy to talk to and approachable), non-verbal communication (HireVue will look at body language and establish if you are stressed, insincere, uncomfortable or nervous). Remember to be clear and concise in your responses, maintain eye contact, and use a firm but friendly tone. Do not sound arrogant or aggressive.

Hirevue trained the algorithms using human "expert evaluator ratings" derived from thousands of cabin crew candidates previously answering the same questions. Hirevue software engineers say "We have standardized rubrics for what an average or low poor quality answer sounds like," she says. "A poor answer might be simply, 'I like to work as a team.' A good answer will go into a lot more detail."

This helps EK to identify top performers that are team fit and have the cabin crew qualities. It is not just about your customer service experience but the above plays a more important role, and added to your recruitment score.
